The four fees that stack

Etsy charges a listing fee when an item is listed, a transaction fee on the order total including shipping, and payment processing on the same amount. Offsite ads add a percentage when the sale is attributed to an ad, and that percentage is optional here so you can compare the two cases.

The calculator applies the transaction and processing percentages to price plus shipping, which is how Etsy computes them. The offsite ad percentage is applied to the item price only, matching the common attribution basis; if your statement applies it differently, adjust the rate until the fee line matches.

Why the fee share matters more than the fee total

A low-priced item can pay a larger share of its price in fees than a high-priced one, because the fixed processing component does not shrink. The fee-share output shows that effect directly: two orders with the same fee total can have very different margins.

Product cost is subtracted after fees, so the net payout is the cash left before packaging, labour and tax.

When to turn off offsite ads

Set the offsite percentage to zero and compare the net with the ad case. The difference is the maximum amount the ad fee can take before the order becomes worse than an organic sale, which is a clearer decision rule than a percentage threshold on revenue.

Remember that offsite ad fees only apply to attributed sales, so the comparison should use your share of attributed orders, not every order.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy charge transaction fees on shipping?

Yes, the transaction fee is calculated on the order total including shipping. The calculator does the same.

Are the default payment rates correct for my country?

They are a US-style placeholder. Etsy payment processing varies by country and currency; enter the rate shown in your own fee statement.

What about currency conversion?

Not included. If Etsy converts the payment, the conversion spread is an additional cost; enter an equivalent percentage in the processing field if you want to approximate it.

Is the listing fee charged again when an item renews?

Yes, renewal is a new listing event. The calculator charges it per order, which is conservative for multi-quantity listings.
